Goal: Undergraduate Education
Objective: Actively recruit outstanding students to the Franklin College
- Support departments in recruiting students into new or undersubscribed majors
- Partner with CURO (the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities), LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation), and other programs to recruit underrepresented students into STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) majors
- Build on Young Dawgs and other pre-college programs to recruit and mentor underrepresented or first generation students
- Broaden the "talent admit" program for the fine and performing arts
Objective: Ensure smooth and timely progress to degree for all undergraduates
- Expand, strengthen, and modernize our undergraduate curricula; establish procedures for curating these requirements
- Develop, refine, and publish policies and procedures that ensure personal and effective advisement of students from orientation through graduation
- Identify additional opportunities to recognize outstanding advisors
- Ensure that initial graduation checks can be done for all students before the fourth year
Objective: Expand international experiences for Franklin students
- Explore opportunities for the creation of dual degrees with international partner institutions
- Expand study abroad and international exchange opportunities for students in all disciplines
- Identify opportunities to enhance the study of language and culture
- Expand undergraduate courses and collaborations with international visiting faculty
Objective: Expand the variety of instructional opportunities
- Expand Writing Intensive Program course offerings within the college as well as across the institution
- Facilitate innovative teaching methods such as cohort-based instruction, block scheduling, team teaching, and on-line course delivery
- Enhance the summer school curriculum
- Identify opportunities for the creation of five-year joint BA/MA or BS/MS programs that give students a competitive advantage
- Initiate a seed grant program to support the development of upper-level undergraduate seminars on emerging issues
- Foster opportunities for undergraduates to engage in minor area studies as well as interdisciplinary coursework and research (e.g. CURO, the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities)
- Create incentives and support for faculty to deliver more on-line courses
Objective: Ensure that all undergraduates have a capstone experience
- Establish guidelines in partnership with the Honors Program to assist faculty in identifying and nominating outstanding students for major awards and honors
- Create opportunities for seniors to share research projects, theses, and capstone experiences (e.g., virtual poster sessions, declamation day, three-minute thesis competitions)
- Establish departmental and college-level graduation traditions to recognize all graduating seniors and their families
