Russian is also the most widely spoken of the Balto-Slavic languages. With a massive footprint, Russia encompasses 6.6 million acres and 11 time zones and is spoken in the Russian-speaking diaspora in multiple countries in Europe, central Asia, and the Caucasus. Proficiency in Russian is deemed critical to the U.S. national security.
At UGA, Russian is available as a major and minor, with electives available to students in other disciplines. One of the hallmarks of majoring in this language at UGA is our prestigious federally funded Russian Flagship Program enabling students to reach Superior Professional proficiency in Russian by graduation. UGA offers study abroad programs in the Baltics; Armenia and Georgia; and in Kazakhstan.
