The extraordinary roster of new honors for Franklin faculty and staff so early in the year includes:
J. Marshall Shepherd, Georgia Athletic Association Distinguished Professor and director of the atmospheric sciences program whose diverse communication efforts engage a wide audience on weather, climate, and the relationship between science and society, will receive the 2020 Mani L. Bhaumik Award for Public Engagement with Science from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Shepherd is chair of the NASA Earth Science Advisory Committee, and former president of the American Meteorological Society
The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a research fellowship to Rachel Gabara, associate professor in the University of Georgia Franklin College of Arts and Sciences’ department of Romance languages, funded as a part of more than $30 million in new NEH grants for 188 humanities projects nationwide
The Council of Editors of Learned Journals has awarded Betsy Wright, professor of Spanish and Editor of the Bulletin of the Comediantes, the BEST JOURNAL DESIGN AWARD for 2019
