Two great concerts, both free, are offered this week and represent the faculty musicians in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at their finest:
Wednesday the 28th. The HHSOM welcomes students and audiences back with a Faculty Showcase! At 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, Connie Frigo (saxophone), D. Ray McClellan (clarinet), Reid Messich (oboe), Amy Pollard (bassoon), and David Zerkel (tuba) will take the Ramsey Concert Hall stage for a free performance of solo and ensemble literature.
Highlights of the program include Jacob ter Veldhuis's Bille for alto saxophone, piano, and boombox; Hommage à M. DeFalla for Solo Clarinet by Béla Kovács; Serenade no. 12 for Solo Tuba, opus 88 by Vincent Persichetti; and four arrangements for mixed ensemble by DMA conducting student Jose Oliver Riojas: Piazolla's Bordel 1900 (Histoire du Tango), Shostakovich's Prelude 15 (24 Preludes & Fugues),
Then on Thursday the 29th,
UGA professors Levon Ambartsumian and Evgeny Rivkin will take the stage in Ramsey Concert Hall at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 29 to perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Six Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord in a free public performance.
The richness of these two offerings alone speaks volumes about the Hodgson School faculty... and these are only two days in a single week. Both will be treats, so treat yourself.
