Back-to-back National Champions

By:

Congratulations to the 2023 National Champion Georgia Bulldogs!

Celebrating the new standard of excellence in academics and athletics:

The No. 1 Bulldogs (15-0) never trailed and were rarely tested by the No. 3 Horned Frogs (13-2), a team that came into the game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, as a compelling underdog. But the only thing compelling about the evening was Georgia’s quick-strike excitement and brutal efficiency on both sides of the ball.

On the Bulldogs’ opening drive, quarterback Stetson Bennett scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns—he wasn’t touched on either of them—and Georgia put the hammer down from there. By game’s end, UGA had rolled up 589 yards of total offense.

Defensively, UGA forced three TCU turnovers in the first half. Two of those were interceptions by Javon Bullard, leading to a pair of touchdowns less than a minute apart at the tail end of the first half. That run put the Bulldogs up 38-7, and the competitive portion of the game was over.

Georgia flustered TCU quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up Max Duggan all night, while Bennett, who finished fourth in the balloting for that same honor, was steady as always.

Georgia now has four national titles (only six teams have more in the AP poll era, which began in 1936). A compelling argument can be made that this latest one is its most impressive. The 2022 Bulldogs won 15 games (three more than the beloved 1980 champs), including an SEC title (which eluded the 2021 champs). Georgia is also the first team to repeat as national champions in the College Football Playoff era, which began in 2014, and is just the fourth repeat winner in the last 30 years.

As coach says, "Go Dawgs!"
