Levi Hopkins Dean

Development Associate / Hugh Hodgson School of Music

Levi Dean joined Franklin College’s Office of Development in 2023 and is the development associate for Hugh Hodgson School of Music. In this role, he works as a liaison between many stakeholders associated with the Hugh including alumni, faculty, students, and donors.

Passionate about music education and improving the lives of everyone through connecting through music, Levi is also a PhD candidate in music education researching the phenomenon of student alienation in our secondary and post-secondary school music programs. His work and research goals are literally about making connections, understanding the gaps that divide, and problem solving how to remedy that gap between people, human expression, and institutionalized values.

Before working in development, Levi studied double bass performance at the Manhattan School of Music (BFA) and Carnegie Mellon University (MFA). He has performed in many orchestras under the direction of great conductors like Kurt Masur, Mstislav Rostropovich, Pierre Boulez, and Valerie Gergiev to name a few. Loving to work with children and others, he proceeded to teach middle school orchestra in Houston and Atlanta which led him to obtain a Master of Music Education at the University of Georgia and is currently a PhD candidate in music education at the University of Georgia.
