Henry 'Fritz' Schaefer III, Graham Perdue Professor of Chemistry and Director of Center for Computational Quantum Chemistry was named the 2019 recipient of the Southern Chemist Award.The award is intended to honor outstanding researchers who have brought recognition to the South by their activities and accomplishments
Faculty members Amma Ghartey-Tagoe Kootin and Emily Sahakian (theatre and film studies), Barbara McCaskill and Sidonia Serafin (English) are part of a team from UGA and Spelman who have received an Honorable Mention Award for The New South and the New Slavery exhibit and [The Georgia Incarceration Performance Project] from the National Council on Public History for a project that "contributes to broader reflection and appreciation of the past or that serves as a model of professional history practice."
Marshall Shepherd, Georgia Athletic Association Distinguished Professor and director of the atmospheric sciences program, received the AAAS science engagement award
The UGA Alumni Association recognized the fastest-growing companies owned or operated by UGA alumni during the 11th annual Bulldog 100 Celebration. The fastest-growing business was LeaseQuery LLC, led by CEO George Azih and Chief Revenue Officer Chris Ramsey (psychology '05)
