Deadline to Apply: May 1, 2008

Eligibility:

  1. An applicant must have completed at least one semester as an undergraduate student in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences prior to Spring 2008.

  2. An applicant must be an undergraduate student in good standing at the time of submission of this application, as well as during any semester he/she is eligible to receive scholarship funds.

  3. A one-page letter of application, which includes educational and career goals, must be submitted along with the attached form.

  4. Two letters of recommendation attesting to an applicant’s personal attributes and/or academic qualifications must accompany the application.  These letters are confidential and must be enclosed in sealed envelopes containing the signature of the person making the recommendation across the sealed flap.  At least one of the letters must be from a UGA faculty member. The quality of these letters of recommendation is extremely important in this process.  The people selected are asked to include in their letters of recommendation their relationship to the applicant and the length of time they have known the applicant.  Letters from relatives are discouraged.

  5. If 1-4 above are met, then a student is eligible to be considered for a Fall 2008 and/or Spring 2009 Scholarship.  Continuation of funding beyond the initial period of award will require reapplication.

  6. Students selected for this award must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours per semester in a degree program in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences during any semester for which they are eligible to receive the scholarship funds.

  7. Preference will be given to students who have had leukemia; however, this is not a requirement to receive this award.
