Academic Advising is required of each student every semester. The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences has a two-tiered academic advising system in which students are generally advised for their first 2 years by professional advisors. As students progress into their major course work, they are advised in their academic department. Departmental advising is decentralized and therefore handled differently by each degree program. For information on academic advising in the majors, please contact them directly.
Below is a list of undergraduate majors, as well as the number of hours at which a student would transition to departmental advising.

Featured Faculty Advisor
Dr. Wendy Dustman
Dr. Wendy Dustman is the recipient of the Franklin College Outstanding Faculty Academic Advising Award for 2009. Dustman, an assistant professor of microbiology, has been an adviser for five years and advises about 60 students each semester. She clearly has mastered the advising process, with one student commenting “there was never one semester during which I felt overwhelmed with my coursework thanks to Dr. Dustman's caring guidance and superb advising skills.” She founded a student chapter of the American Society for Microbiology here at UGA, one of only two in Georgia. She currently serves as the faculty advisor. Wendy also builds close relationships with her advisees. She said one of her goals in advising is to help students find “formative experiences” outside the classroom such as internships and research opportunities.
