Leigh Holland is the Lead Residence Hall Advisor. She advises
primarily Pre-Journalism, Art, Dance and Music majors in Brumby Hall. She oversees the Franklin College Residence Hall Cultural and Academic Events
Program. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling & Human Development Services, where she teaches ECHD 2050 (Academic and Career Planning) and a graduate seminar on Academic Advising as a Profession.
Dr. Holland has an A.B. in Foreign Languages/History from Brenau Women's College,
an M.Ed. in Counseling from Mississippi State University, a Ph.D.
from the University of Georgia in Counseling & Human Development, and has done additional graduate studies in Historic Preservation at UGA. She taught
middle & high school Spanish and History, and worked in Counseling, Financial
Aid, and Career Services before joining the Franklin College in July, 1981.
In 1993 and again in 2002, Dr. Holland was named the Franklin College's "Outstanding Professional Advisor" . In 2003, she was named the University of Georgia's "Outstanding Advisor/Mentor" and an "Outstanding Advisor/Primary Role" winner by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA.) The Department of Counseling & Human Development Services gave Dr. Holland their "Outstanding Doctoral Alumni" award in 2005. In 2006, she was awarded a NACADA Region IV "Certificate of Merit" for ourstanding advising and contributions to the organization. In 2007, she was named Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling & Human Development Services. She has presented at a number of state, regional and national NACADA conferences and collaborated on nominations which resulted in the Franklin College Office of Academic Advising receiving national NACADA outstanding program, outstanding publication, and outstanding technology awards
During the 2006 Maymester, Dr. Holland was selected by the UGA Horticulture Study Abroad Garden Tour Program to accompany them on their trip to Italy & France. In October 2008, she was awarded a Study Abroad Fellowship with the UGA at Oxford Program.
In her life outside the office, Dr. Holland serves on the Executive Board of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, plays viola with the Athens Symphony and handbells at First Methodist, sings with the Collegium Musicum, enjoys historic architecture, and creates heirloom needlework with the Classic City Smocking Guild. |
