Arts Career Entrepreneurship Day

By:
Alan Flurry

Supporting our students as they establish career goals and move toward the next steps in their professional lives working in the arts, the Hugh Hodgson School of of Music and the Lamar Dodd School of Art present Arts Career Entrepreneurship Day on Friday, January 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the atrium of the School of Art.

In the Fall Semester of 2018 the School of Art and the School of Music initiated the Arts Career and Entrepreneurship Space in an effort to provide students with comprehensive and specialized career support. The shared office in the Lamar Dodd School of Art serves as a space where students can come to seek assistance in identifying professional objectives, building career skills, locating opportunities, preparing job application materials, and finding internships. Under the direction of Mark Mobley and Tif Sigfrids, ACES has also launched a series of visiting talks with graphic designers, artists working in New York and Los Angeles, directors of non-profit spaces, composers, performers, and book designers as a way of exposing students to the variety of career possibilities relevant to their course of study.

Arts Career Entrepreneurship Day that will give students the opportunity to interface with professionals from various creative backgrounds. This inaugural event will focus on Visual Art and Music and their intersection. Themes that will be explored in a series of panel discussion with visiting professionals will include finding a job after graduation, creating a career path, starting and managing your own business, and many others. The diverse group of specialists will meet one on one with students to do portfolio, CV, and resume reviews.

And important and ongoing effort on the part of faculty and staff in our arts units, as students begin to plan for the exciting and often challenging next steps after graduation. A terrific list of creative professionals will be on hand to share their experiences.
