UGA institute receives $10,000 grant for graduate student research
Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) has been awarded a $10,000 Tinker Foundation Field Research Grant to provide funds in support of travel for graduate students carrying out pre-thesis or pre-dissertation research in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean during summer 2008.
The UGA Graduate School and Franklin College of Arts and Sciences (LACSI is Franklin College institute) provided an additional $10,000 match for the program. This is the fifth year LACSI has received a Tinker field research grant. In 2007, 17 students from 11 UGA departments received travel awards to carry out summer research in 12 Latin American/Caribbean countries.
In early March, LACSI will formally announce its summer 2008 field research travel award competition through its listserv and web site. It encourages all students interested in carrying out research in Spanish or Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean during the summer of 2008 to apply for this travel award.
