Students in the Art Dept. and the Scientific Illustration program are working together under the direction of Professors Art Rosenbaum and Eugene Wright to create a spectacular mural. Over a thousand square feet of wall space is coming alive with images of plants and creatures native to Georgia. Working closely with the Museum’s curatorial staff, the students researched several of the distinct eco-regions of the state, and they are covering the large wall panels with paintings of the flora and fauna that inhabit them.

The project has been in the works for over a year. The process of mural making is truly a community event, and the students, curators, and professors worked hard to arrive at a design that showcases not only Georgia’s abundant natural resources but also the scientific and research activities of the Museum. With one of the largest natural history collections in the Southeast, the Museum plays a vital role in the study and preservation of Georgia’s natural resources. Its research and teaching collections include millions of specimens, and its many outreach activities have touched the lives of countless students across the state. For information about the Museum, call 542-1663 or visit its website at http://naturalhistory.uga.edu.
The project is being funded by the Friends of the Museum, the Center for the Humanities and the Arts, and generous private donations.
