Summer School Preplanning Instructions
For summer pre-planning, please fill out your summer school funding request on one or both of the following two forms as appropriate. Please note that the following forms are PDF and must first be saved to your computer in order to retain information within the form.
Use Form 1 to list courses to be taught, instructors and graduate TAs, and their stipends.
Use Form 2 to list summer salaries/stipends not related to specific course instruction. This includes salaries for heads, associate heads, graduate and undergraduate coordinators, and any other faculty who have received a commitment of summer stipend from the Franklin College.
Please submit your pre-planning sheets to Shari Griffeth via email (sharig@franklin.uga.edu) or fax (2-1963) by Monday, November 9, 2009.
GUIDELINES FOR PREPLANNING
Summer School Instruction
Faculty salaries are set at 10% of academic salary for a 3-hour course, with a maximum of $8,000. In cases where a 4-hour course instruction is approved, an additional compensation of $1,000 may be paid.When calculating 10% of salary for faculty teaching summer school, you should use spring semester rate.
Franklin Fellows
Franklin Fellows who teach summer school should be compensated at 11.1% of academic salary per course.When calculating 11.1% of salary for Franklin Fellows teaching summer school, you should use spring semester rate.
Graduate Students
Graduate Students must be enrolled in at least 9 hours to be eligible to teach summer school.Graduate Teaching Assistants rates for Summer 10 are:

Administration salary, if applicable, is based on the agreement with the individual and the College as outlined in the letter of offer. All college commitments for summer school salaries should be listed on your preplanning sheets.New Faculty Appointments for Summer School
If persons who have not been previously approved by the Board of Regents are recommended to teach summer, the same appointment procedure must be followed as in the regular academic year appointments.
