Minimum Endowment Levels for Funds in the Franklin
College
For Faculty/Staff/Departmental Enhancement:
The following funds allow us to recruit and retain outstanding faculty
by using the income from the endowments to supplement salaries, pay
for travel, provide needed equipment and supplies for research and
teaching, and other items crucial to our mission but unfunded through
state dollars.

For Student Support:
Graduate students awarded a teaching or research assistantship usually
receive only $10,000 -12,000 per year. This usually being their only
form of income, fellowships that provide additional funds to these
students are critical to attracting the top graduate students to our
College. Having outstanding graduate students increases the productivity
of faculty and improves the learning environment for undergraduates.
With the institution of the HOPE scholarship, undergraduate scholarships
are less critical, except in the areas of music, art, dance, and drama,
where students are being evaluated on talents outside of the academic
realm. These students may not qualify for HOPE, but are outstanding
in their chosen field of artistic expression and deserve to be rewarded
for that dedication as well.
