I am Associate Dean of International and Multidisciplinary Programs in Franklin College. In this role I serve as the College liaison with all Franklin study abroad programs as well as the African Studies Institute, the African-American Studies Program, the Center for Asian Studies, the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute, the Linguistics Program, and the Women’s Studies Institute. I am also the primary liaison for Language and Social Sciences Departments – Anthropology, Comparative Literature, Geography, Germanic & Slavic Studies, Psychology, Romance Languages, Sociology, and Speech Communication.

Other duties include interviewing prospective faculty members and handling requests for leaves and Graduate Faculty status. I also oversee at the College level faculty requests for Study in a Second Discipline, and I coordinate the undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies Program.

I hold the Ph.D. degree in Spanish from the University of Michigan. I have been a faculty member at the University of Georgia since 1992, and served as Acting Head of the Department of Romance Languages from 1998-2000 and permanent Head from 2000-2007. My research focuses primarily on the medieval and early modern periods.
