My responsibilities as Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences include oversight of Research and Graduate Education activities in Franklin College.  I also serve as the primary liaison with the Biological Sciences Departments - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Genetics, Marine Sciences, Microbiology, Plant Biology, and the Division of Biological Sciences.

I received my Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin, then moved first to Michigan State University, then Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and then to the University of Georgia.  I am a member of the Plant Biology Department and have an adjunct appointment in the Genetics Department; I also participate in the Institute of Bioinformatics. My own current research interests are in Bioinformatics and in Evolutionary Genetics, working with the insectivorous pitcher plants Sarracenia.
